Royal Society of Medicine visits UNC Department of Surgery

May 26, 2010 -- Delegates of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Section of Surgery visited the UNC Department of Surgery from May 21st through May 26th, 2010. Their visit included a joint meeting with the Surgery Department from May 24-25. During the meeting, members of the Royal Society of Medicine and faculty members of the Department of Surgery presented on various surgical education issues.

The delegates from the Royal Society of included Professor Graham Layer, DM, FRCS, FACS, Professor Michael Bailey, Professor Tom Bates, Professor Kevin Burnand, Mr. Christopher M. Butler, MS, FRCS, Mr. Simon Cawthorn, Mr. David Gerrard, Miss Rachel Hargest, Mr. Paul A.E. Hurst, MS, MRCP, FRCS, Mr. Andrew McIrvine, John G. Payne, MD, FRCS, Miss Asha Senapati, Mr. Frank Smith, and Miss Anne Stebbing.

The Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) is an independent, apolitical organization that is one of the largest providers of continued medical education in UK.  The organization strives to “promote an exchange of information and ideas on the science, practice and organization of medicine, both within the health professions and with responsible and informed public opinion.” The Section of Surgery of the RSM brings together and directs the organization’s surgical initiatives and interests.
