For Patients and Families

What to expect during your comprehensive visit

The Hemophilia Treatment Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for the patient with a bleeding disorder. You (or your child) will be seen by a physician, a nurse, and a social worker.  You may also  be seen by a genetic counselor and a physical therapist.  Laboratory studies and X-rays may be done.  The visit will likely take 2-3 hours so that we can provide the best possible care for your bleeding disorder.  We may also ask you to be seen by an orthopedist, a hepatologist, and/or a hospital dentist as part of providing comprehensive care.  We will try to schedule these other appointments in conjunction with your visit.

Studies conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have found that patients followed by Hemophilia Treatment Centers have significantly better health outcomes as compared with those seen outside the Hemophilia Treatment Center network.
