School of Medicine International Fellowships |
10 fellowships each year to provide partial support
to UNC medical students who want to undertake an elective
clinical or research experience in another country.
Award is approximately $1000.

| Perkins-Burke
Fellowship |
Each year, one first year UNC medical student is
selected as a Perkins-Burke Fellow. The Fellow is
funded to pursue a 6 to 8 week study experience abroad
in either Europe or Canada during the summer before
starting second year. Applicants design and plan an
activity that allows them to experience or investigate
any aspect of medicine and health care in Europe or
Canada in which they have an interest.

for Global Intiatives Internship Award (formerly
University Center for International Studies - UCIS)
|
These awards are intended to advance
the academic and professional careers of students who
have secured internationally-focused internships. Students
must have secured their internship before applying for
this award. Upon completing the internship and returning
to UNC, students should build the internship experience
into their academic experience. And, ideally, upon graduation,
students land a job with the organization.
The Center for Global Initiatives is currently focusing
particular attention on four themes and encourages
proposals that address one or more of these themes:
1) Peace and Conflict Resolution, 2) Global Health,
3) Migration, Citizenship and Identity, and 4) the
Globalization of the American South.

| C.V.
Starr Scholarships |
These awards are intended to support
UNC students who have strong financial needs to undertake
an independent internationally-oriented experience.
The C.V. Starr International Scholarships were established
at UNC in 2004 with an endowed gift from The Starr
Foundation. Since 1980, C.V. Starr Scholarships have
been established at more than 80 major universities,
liberal arts colleges, and graduate and professional
schools in the United States and abroad. Award is
approximately $2500

| Mahatma
Gandhi Fellowship |
The Mahatma Gandhi Fellowship
was established in 1998 by a group of students in Sangam,
a South Asian awareness group at the University of North
Carolina at Chapel Hill, who sought to create a unique
new educational opportunity for their fellow students
at UNC. The Fellowship awards two students each year
up to $3000 to execute a project of their own design
that benefits South Asians in some way, whether it is
through direct service or increasing awareness of South
Asian culture and issues. There is no restriction on
where the project is undertaken nor on the exact nature
of the project, just that it apply to South Asian issues
in some way. All full-time students at UNC-Chapel Hill
are welcome to apply.

| Becton-Tannenbaum
Fellowship |
Annual funding for one UNC School of Medicine student
desiring to travel to developing or "third world"
countries to experience a contrasting medical community
or system.

| James
and Florence Peacock Fellowship |
2 $3000 Scholarships for students
to attend Carolina for Kibera. The fellowship is named
in honor of the Peacocks, who have been tremendous supporters
of CFK since its inception. Two fellowships valued at
$3,000 each are awarded annually to two UNC student
volunteers to defray the costs associated with volunteering
in Kibera. UNC students who apply to be a CFK Summer
Volunteer will automatically be considered for the Peacock
Fellowship. |
