Aim

Palliative Care consultations and interventions will increase on Med E services for patients with advanced cancer by July 2016. The primary outcome, treatment preferences, will increase from 32 to 48%.

Project Accomplishments

  • Improved frequency of goals of care communication for patients with Stage IV cancer from 29% to 48% of admissions
  • Increased Palliative Care consultation from 18% to 33% of patients, and those with Palliative Care consultation were less likely to be re-admitted in 30 days (12% vs 21%)
  • Awarded a Lineberger 2-year grant to extend this work into outpatient Palliative and Supportive Care
