Anticoagulation/Warfarin Clinic Visit
Appointments are available for new and established, returning patients. What to expect at your Anticoagulation/Warfarin visit.
We look forward to working with you and your doctor to prevent further clotting problems.
Reason for this visit:
- To make sure you are protected against future clotting problems by measuring your Coumadin® (warfarin) blood level
- To make changes, when needed, to your Coumadin® (warfarin) doses so that you continue to be protected against clots or strokes
- Your Coumadin® (warfarin) blood level must be checked regularly because it can be affected by things such as illness, the foods you eat, exercise or other medications
What to expect during the visit:
- We will perform a “finger stick” to get a small amount of blood, which will be used to measure your Coumadin® (warfarin) blood level
- We will discuss changes in your diet, medications, health or lifestyle changes which may affect your Coumadin® (warfarin)
- We will discuss your Coumadin® (warfarin) blood level and decide on changes, if needed, to your Coumadin® (warfarin) dose based on this test
- You will be given a calendar to help you remember any changes in your Coumadin® (warfarin) dose
What to expect in the future:
- You will return, usually within 1 week of starting your Coumadin® (warfarin)
- Once your Coumadin® (warfarin) levels are stable, you will return to clinic every 2 to 4 weeks
