"An update on malaria research in Southeast Asia"

There will be two presentation on malaria research in Southeast Asia:"Clinical Malaria Research at the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences, Bangkok, Thailand" - David Saunders, MAJ, MC, USA, and “Malaria in vitro Drug Resistance in Southeast Asia” - Stuart Tyner, MAJ, MS, USA

Stuart Tyner, PhD, MAJ, MS, USA, and David Saunders, MD, MPH, MAJ, MC, USA, along with their Cambodian collaborators have made efforts over the last five years to fight drug resistance to malaria in Cambodia and Thailand. Their research at the Armed Forces Research Institute of Medical Sciences is focused isolating and addressing the emerging drug resistance in these areas. These efforts were supported by a number of organizations including: MMV/The Geneva Foundation, Cambodian National Malaria Program (CNM), WHO/BMGF, US GEIS program, US Army's Malaria Drug Programs (MIDRP, USAMMDA), and Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF).

About Friday ID Conference

IGHID co-sponsors a weekly conference series which features distinguished clinicians and scientists from UNC, local universities and other national and international institutions. The topics are varied and appeal to not only infectious disease specialists, but also professionals in epidemiology, public health, microbiology, biostatistics and other global health-related disciplines.
