EducationB.S., Simmons College, 1988 M.P.H., University of California Berkeley, 1998 P.h.D., University of California Berkely,2004 Research InterestsDr. Doherty’s research focuses broadly on social determinants of reproductive health among marginalized populations and youth, including the effects of social and sexual networks on the transmission of HIV infection and sexually transmitted infections and the social epidemiology surrounding adolescents’ and young women’s unplanned pregnancies. Projects include: - A two-year longitudinal study to investigate the on the occurrence of sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy among Latino adolescents in San Francisco’s Mission District. - Dual outbreaks of syphilis and HIV infection among predominately young African American men in North Carolina. - Exploration of the relationship between the spatial epidemiology and sexual networks that formed during a syphilis outbreak in rural areas of North Carolina. - Expanded on a project that builds upon past social network analysis and biomarker studies to learn how best to use Staphylococcus aureus (SA) as a biomarker to augment social network studies of transmission of infectious diseases by inmates recently released from prison.
