Dr Rubinow Bio

David Rubinow, M.D.

Assad Meymandi Professor and Chair of Psychiatry,
Director, UNC Innovation and Health Care System Transformation

Dr. Rubinow is an Assad Meymandi Professor, Chair of the UNC Department of Psychiatry, and Director, UNC Innovation and Health Care System Transformation. He has received awards for his research (e.g., the A. E. Bennett Neuropsychiatric Research Foundation Award; the Research Award of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine; the Gold Medal Award of the Society of Biological Psychiatry; the Mood Disorders Research Award of the American College of Psychiatrists; and the William C. Menninger Memorial Award of the American College of Physicians), his clinical supervision and training (the NIH Distinguished Clinical Educator Award and the NIMH Mentor of the Year [2002]), and his scientific administration (the USPHS Outstanding Service Medal). He is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Endocrine Society, the American College of  Neuropsychopharmacology, of which he is the 2009 President-elect, the American Neuroendocrine Society, and the Society of Biological Psychiatry, which he served as President.  He currently serves on the editorial boards of six journals and has authored or co-authored more than 300 scientific publications.

Dr. Rubinow holds a B.A., with distinction from the University of Michigan, a M.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and his Internship and Residency in Psychiatry at Yale University

Carol Lewis

Carol Lewis

Associate Director, UNC Innovation and Health Care System Transformation

Carol, in her role as Associate Director, oversees the Center and directs innovation efforts that are aligned with the Center's Mission across the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health Care System. Primary areas of focus for the innovation team include the development of partnerships and collaborations with other industry and non-industry innovators (individuals and companies), the funding and creation of pilot programs to evaluate innovative ideas, and the promotion of an innovation culture within the school and health care system.  Carol holds a BA in Business and Economics from Lafayette College and a MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. She has over fifteen years of experience in healthcare administration and top-tier strategy consulting.

Jason Burke

Jason Burke

Senior Advisor, Advanced Analytics & Innovation

Jason Burke is Senior Advisor for Advanced Analytics and Innovation at the UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health Care System's Center for Innovation. He currently serves on the leadership team for the National Collaborative for Bio-Preparedness, and is a principal at Burke Advisory Group. With a career spanning clinical research, organizational development, and enterprise information technology, his current work focuses on health industry transformation through strategy design, data sciences, and emerging technologies. Previously, Burke was the founder, managing director, and chief strategist for the SAS Center for Health Analytics and Insights, an industry-leading think tank pioneering novel approaches to health informatics. He also served as SAS's global head of health and life sciences technology research and development, as well as founder of the $3 billion software firm's health and life sciences global practice. He has held strategy and management roles in organizations such as Microsoft, Quintiles Transnational, and GlaxoSmithKline. He is a cognitive neuroscientist by training, holding degrees from Virginia Tech and the University of Missouri at Columbia.

Arturo Inda

Senior Strategy Consultant

Arturo provides strategic and project management support for the initiatives of the Center. Focus areas include financial and analytical modeling, strategic analysis, portfolio management, business case development, and external partner engagement. Additionally Arturo develops and facilitates Center programs such as its Innovation Council, communications and outreach. Arturo holds a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from ITESM Monterrey (Mexico), a MS in Operations Research from Columbia University and a MBA from the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. He is also Six Sigma Black Belt Certified.

Jen Costello

Jennifer Costello

Operational Project Manager

Jen serves as the Operational Project Manager at the Center, supporting its new and ongoing efforts designed to improve patient outcomes and reduce cost. Jen holds a masters from the Harvard School of Public Health and has more than 10 years of experience managing efforts to assess, strengthen and redesign health and human service programs at the local, state and federal level.

Peter Leese

Peter Leese

Sr Programmer, Clinical/BI Analyst

Peter's joint Innovation Center and UNCH-ISD role is to provide technical/analytic development and oversight to Innovation Center and Health Care System projects. His primary areas of focus are development within the Carolina Data Warehouse for Health for innovative operational and translational research projects, and technical oversight and facilitation for projects with external analytic partners. Additionally Peter works to develop and implement innovative analytic strategies for the CDW-H and UNCH System, such as implementation of predictive analytics.

Peter holds a BS in Biology and Neuroscience from Davidson College, and has completed both an MSPH in Health Economics/Quantitative Methods and Doctoral coursework in Epidemiology from the School of Public Health at UNC-Chapel Hill.
