Novel iPhone Study on Postpartum Depression Exceeds Expectations
One month after launch, almost 10,000 women have enrolled in an iPhone-based research study being led by University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine researchers and the international Postpartum Depression: Action Towards Causes and Treatment (PACT) Consortium – far surpassing expectations for this initial launch. Of those who enrolled, 5,000 are eligible to submit DNA samples.
Innovation Pilot Award Winner published in Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association
Lukasz M. Mazur, PhD, along with a team of UNC researchers, has been published in JAMIA: Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. The paper, "Towards a Better Understanding of Task Demands, Workload, and Performance during Physician-Computer Interactions," found that physicians are likely to make omission errors when using electronic medical records (EMRs). This study was originally funded by the UNC Health Care and UNC School of Medicine Center for Innovation.
Cisco's UNC health clinic exceeding expectations
UNC Health Care recently opened a primary care center on Cisco's RTP campus for their employees and family members. The new on-site health clinic will function as a medical home for Cisco’s 5,000 employees in RTP and their families. The Life Connections Health Center has already seen 1,600 total visits, or between 35 and 40 per day. Roughly 10 percent of the employees have gone to the clinic, well on the way toward Cisco’s goal of reaching 30 percent saturation by the end of 2016.
