Mentored Research Awards
The HTRS Mentored Research Awards provide financial support for promising investigators to pursue basic, clinical, and/or epidemiologic research in the areas of hemostasis and thrombosis. Up to four grants of $75,000 per year for two years will be awarded. These awards have been made possible by unrestricted educational grants from Novo Nordisk Corporation and the CLB Behring Research Foundation.
Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent degree and be within 5 years of completing their core clinical rotations for hematology subspecialty training. Fellow candidates must be enrolled in accredited Hematology, Hematology-Oncology or Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship training programs in the U.S. or Canada. Faculty applicants must hold a faculty position in a U.S. or Canadian academic institution. Only investigators associated with a noncommercial institution are eligible. U.S. or Canadian citizenship is not required. Candidates must select a mentor who is an established researcher who has agreed to supervise the applicant during the fellowship period.
ALetter of Intentdescribing the proposed research project and the applicant’s future career plans is due by September 3, 2007. If the letter of intent is favorably reviewed by the HTRS review committee, the applicant will be informed within 2 weeks that a full application is requested.
The full applicationis due by November 15, 2007. Letters of support by the department chair or division chief indicating institutional commitment of sufficient time to permit the candidate to focus his or her efforts on research, as well as a letter of support from the research mentor are required.
The application will be reviewed by a peer review committee comprised of HTRS members and selected scientific experts. Applicants will be notified of the results of the review by January 7, 2008 and awards will be dispensed by July 1, 2008.
