Patient members of the student longitudinal outpatient cohorts may also be admitted to the hospital. In this situation, students are expected to follow their patients into the hospital and interact (with the supervision of their outpatient preceptor) and with the house officer team and attending. Student involvement in the care of these patients should be comparable to student involvement in the care of patients admitted during regular inpatient blocks (see below). As well, students will be expected to follow their patients through their health care experience. This may include going with certain patients to other subspecialty appointments, radiology, ancillary services such as PT/OT, weight management classes, diabetic education, etc. It is the responsibility of the student to work with their preceptor and the staff at your clinic to make sure you are made aware of appointments that your patients may have.
