Most frequently used software for students:


Please do not upgrade to macOS Sierra until notified.  ExamSoft software will not run properly. 

Antivirus Software: Antivirus software is required to connect to the UNC network. Microsoft Security Essentials (Windows Vista/7) | ClamXav (Mac) 

Note: If you are running Windows 8.x you do not need to install Security Essentials. Windows Defender is preloaded.

CCI Printing Software: Students can use their personal devices to send print jobs from anywhere and pick them up in any of the CCI Print Stations across campus.

Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client: When off campus, you will need to use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access certain on-campus resources. VPN Installation Instructions for Windows and Mac (Onyen required)

Microsoft Office: Microsoft Office is available to all students Download/Installation instructions for Windows/Mac (Onyen required)

Wireless Network: Go to and follow the instructions to connect to eduroam (on campus only). Instructions for Windows | Instructions for Mac | iOS | Android


All incoming UNC medical students must bring a laptop to the program. Student laptops are required for all exams and should be in good working order. Students may choose their own device as long as it meets the minimum requirements outlined on this site.
