Career Exploration in Family Medicine: Inpatient Service

Prerequisites:

Successful completion of 6 months of clinical clerkships

Offered:

Two weeks during these blocks: 8, 8a, 9, 10. Interested students should call or email Carolyn Joines (966-2824, cjoines@med.unc.edu) at least one month before elective to determine specific dates.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the rotation, the student will be able to work and contribute as an effective member of a busy family medicine inpatient service.

Learning Activities:

The student will participate in the full range of activities on the family medicine inpatient service. This includes rounding on service patients as a member of a team, attending Wednesday morning conferences and daily morning report and taking night call with a resident at least twice.

Evaluation

To receive a passing grade, the student should be an effective member of the FMIS by being on time and actively participating in all scheduled activities; take night call as assigned.
