Learning Objectives: (what student will be able to do as a result of this experience)

1. Expose medical students to a career in Ophthalmic Surgery

2. Become familiar with ophthalmic exam techniques and equipment

3. Develop a knowledge base of ophthalmic terminology

4. Become familiar with common ophthalmic diagnoses and surgical procedures

Learning Activities:

Weekly scheduled conferences and rounds

Clinics or ORs each day

Expected hours: 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (approx.)

No on-call requirements

Evaluation: All 2-week career exploration electives are pass fail. Attendance and participation are required to pass. A pre- and post-rotation quiz will be given. 2 patient write-ups are required.
