114 East Cameron Avenue
Chapel Hill, NC 27514

What about rehearsal? Do I have to go?

Friday, May 12th, 2017 at 11:00 AM also at Memorial Hall.  Rehearsal is mandatory.

What is my "Official Graduation Date"?
Sunday, May 14th, 2017.  Our ceremony is on May 13th, but for official purposes, you receive your diploma on May 14th.

How many people can I bring to Commencement?
Each Graduate is expected to Receive at least 6 tickets. Please note per Memorial Hall regulations, ALL living bodies (including infants) require a ticket for entrance.  We anticipate having the ticket request form available mid February. Please stay tuned for more information.

There will be an overflow room that will seat 200-300 on a first come first serve basis. This room typically has had ample space in the past and is a good space for families with younger children. Babysitting during graduation will also be coordinated by MS1 Class Presidents and available for graduates, families, and friends.

We have set up a live stream for friends and families that cannot attend in person.  The links for live streaming will be posted here as well as the home page when the time comes.

Who will be speaking at Commencement?
This year we are fortunate to have Dr. Elizabeth Dreesen as keynote speaker at Commencement 2017!  Dr. Dreesen is Chief of General and Acute Care Surgery at UNC and has achieved excellence in teaching medical students at all points of their training.  A Harvard medical school graduate, she is boarded in both general surgery and surgical critical care.  She is an active leader in evaluating and shaping clinical education for medical students.  She frequently shares reflections from her experiences as a physician, patient, and family member in her column with the Raleigh News and Observer.  Some of her publications can be found here.

What do I wear?

You will soon be able to purchase your regalia online through UNC Student Stores.  Please stay tuned for when the link goes live.  Keep in mind, even if you acquire used regalia, you will still need to by your 2017 tassel!

[ ] Apply to graduate.  Go to your UNC Campus Portal and log in. In the "ConnectCarolina Student Center", click on the My Academics link, then choose the Apply for Graduation link. Complications of failing to apply to graduate by February 17th, 2017 may include inability to graduate in 2017.

[ ] Check the name on your diploma.  While you're in ConnectCarolina, check the name UNC has on record for you, which you can access from My AcademicsView Graduation StatusTHIS IS THE NAME THAT WILL APPEAR ON YOUR DIPLOMA. If you wish to change it, then you need to visit main campus Registrar (3rd floor SASB North) with a picture ID or contact University Registrar Records at records@unc.edu and follow their guidance. Bring confirmation of name change to 1001 Bondurant Hall. Diplomas will be printed in February and will reflect the name in the system at that time. A diploma will have to be re-ordered at the cost of $25 if your name changes after the deadline and you desire the change to be reflected on your diploma.

We are currently working on launching the website for payment of graduation fees and class gift, organizing a team to review the oath recited at graduation, and working with the book store to centralize regalia purchases.  Later, we will ask you all to nominate your most influential faculty for teaching awards.  Don't forget about all of the upcoming fun ahead as well!
