FAQs and To-Do's

When and where will Commencement be held?
Saturday May 7th, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Hall (114 East Cameron Avenue, Chapel Hill, NC 27514)

What about rehearsal? Do I have to go?
Friday May 6th, 2016 at 11:00 AM also at Memorial Hall. Yes you do have to.

What is my "Official Graduation Date"?
Sunday May 8th, 2016.  Our ceremony is on May 7th, but for official purposes you receive your diploma on May 8th.

How many people can I bring to Commencement?
As of right now, the plan is for each student to receive 4-5 tickets. Every individual (including children and babies) will require one ticket each, and this is strictly enforced by Memorial Hall staff.

There will be an overflow room that will seat 200-300 on a first come first serve basis. This room typically has had ample space in the past, and is a good space for families with younger children. Babysitting during graduation will also be coordinated by MS1 Class Presidents and available for graduates, families, and friends.

We have set up a live stream for friends and families that cannot attend in person:

Who will be speaking at Commencement?
We are excited to announce that Dr. William "Billy" Fischer will be our speaker at Commencement 2016! Dr. Fischer is a UNC SOM alum, current UNC Pulmonologist, and avid clinical educator!  Most recently, he has used his expertise in pulmonology and critical care medicine to help with the Ebola outbreak in 2014, by traveling with the WHO to Guinea.  He not only served on the front lines as a health care provider, but collaborated with other physicians to launch the first clinical trial of a therapeutic intervention in an Ebola outbreak.  He also lent his voice to chronicle his experiences and give insight into conditions from the ground level of this epidemic.

See here in his own words about his experience in West Africa:

What do I wear?
Your regalia - order here! If you are buying used regalia, you STILL need to buy your 2016 tassel!
