IBS Pocket PC and Immodium Study: Need Subjects with IBS-D and IBS-M

Description The purpose of this research study is to learn about how bowel symptoms vary throughout the day and in response to specific stresses people encounter, and to assess the effect of Immodium on symptoms of diarrhea in IBS-D and IBS-M patients.

Requirements
  • All subjects must be 18 years of age or older
  • Case subjects must have a history of IBS for at least 6 months, either diarrhea predominant or mixed
  • Subjects must experience at least 4 episodes of diarrhea per month, involving 2 or more loose stools per day
  • Healthy control subjects must have no GI symptoms/disorders
  • Study participation lasts 6 weeks
  • Four 45-minute long study visits at UNC are required
  • Subjects will be asked to record their bowel symptoms, stress levels, and sleep habits on a daily basis for 14 days using both paper diary cards and a pocket PC device
Compensation $300 for completing this study
