Welcome to the Division of General Medicine & Clinical Epidemiology

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Division of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology is composed of general internal medicine physicians, mid-level providers, fellows, and staff with an overall goal of improving the health status of North Carolina adults.  We provide primary and consultative clinical care to both the inpatient and outpatient population at UNC Hospitals and affiliated practices.  Our research involves broad areas of clinical epidemiology, health services research, clinical decision-making research, and prevention.  We work with students, residents and fellows in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health and UNC Hospitals at multiple levels, ranging from introductory clinical interviewing courses to research fellowship programs for board-certified internists.  We collaborate with our colleagues in the Department of Medicine and elsewhere within the University of North Carolina, and through regional, national, and international partnerships.

NEWS:  UNC Internal Medicine Clinic Awarded NCQA Recognition!

The Internal Medicine Clinic at UNC Health Care has been awarded Recognition by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Diabetes Physician Recognition Program (DPRP).  NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality.  The recognition programs are built on evidence-based, nationally recognized clinical standards of care.  NCQA, in partnership with the American Diabetes Association, developed the DPRP, to recognize physicians who have met standards demonstrating delivery of high-quality care to patients with diabetes.

“Physicians who earn recognition through the Diabetes Physician Recognition Program have an established track record of providing excellent diabetes care,” said John Buse, MD., PhD, President, Medicine & Science, American Diabetes Association.

We strive to continually measure and improve the care we provide to our patients with diabetes. Earning NCQA recognition shows the high level of care we provide.

The official NCQA directory of Recognized programs can be accessed at http://recognition.ncqa.org
