Past and Current Charities or Projects

Little Samaritan Mission – a non-profit religious organization dedicated to serving the orphan children in the Republic of Moldova. MEDWorld donates over 40% of our supplies to the Little Samaritan Mission because this mission has an excellent system for distributing supplies to over 20 orphanages in Moldova and Romania. In addition, Moldova is the "sister" country of North Carolina and through this partnership our state has agreed to help Moldova improve its healthcare system. By donating supplies, MEDWorld and the UNC health care system is an integral part of that agreement.

Counterpart International - Mission statement: giving people a voice in their own future through smart partnerships offering options and access to tools for sustained social, economic and environmental development. Counterpart’s innovative programs address health needs that communities themselves identify. Working with local experts and local resources, they implement programs that are culturally and technologically appropriate for the populations with whom they work. They work within traditional belief systems to improve community health, including improved maternal and child health and nutrition, a reduction in preventable illnesses, treatment of infectious disease, and care and support of HIV/AIDS, as well as access to quality health services.

Individual Resident Physician Projects - resident physicians and medical students traveling to developing countries to provide medical care to the poor are able to take supplies from MEDWorld. Local physicians and students have been able to take medical supplies to local clinics in countries like Bolivia, Cambodia, Cuba, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Jamaica, Nigeria and Romania.

Global Links – a non-profit organization based in Pittsburgh, PA, that specializes in collecting recycled surplus medical equipment from over 50 hospitals throughout the United States. Global Links collects the materials, sorts, sterilizes and re-packages it before sending it to health care organizations servicing the needy in over 40 countries, including the United States.

Operation Renewed Hope -a program directed by Pastor Jan Milton in conjunction with the United States Airforce.  ORH collects a wide range of medical supplies and equipment from hospitals throughout the U.S.  The supplies are then cleaned, packaged and sent to over 30 countries around the world.

United Nations Association (West Triangle Chapter) - this organization has been working with MEDWorld to donate supplies to small clinics in Southwest Haiti and Cambodia. Our collaboration started in 2004 and continues to grow.
