Medical Education Technology Committee Meeting (METC)
Tuesday, June 18, 2013
This month METC will hold a hands-on workshop with 4 fifteen minute stations. Please invite and bring all interested faculty & staff!
Items to be viewed in the workshop are:
Captivate: Ed Kernick (Cell Biology & Physiology) will explain his use of Captivate to create modules for Osteology. Students are able to interact with the lesson with formative quizzes including roll-over images & integrated quiz questions.
Explain Everything: Katie Smith (Office of Medical Education) will give a short tutorial on how to use this innovative iPad app to create short Khan-Academy style videos that integrate already created PowerPoint lessons. These videos are saved to your iPad and can be uploaded to Sakai for student use.
Soft Chalk: Kurt Gilliland (Cell Biology & Physiology) will demonstrate the use of the eLearning authoring tool used to create a module for Radiology. The Soft Chalk software is able to include embedded videos, interactive features including hot spots and labeling and quizzes.
Exam Master: Brian Moynihan (Office of Medical Education) will give a hands-on demonstration of Exam Master, a software (free for UNC faculty) that can be used to create assignments, practice quizzes, and flashcards for courses. You can use thousands of practice questions related to the USMLE Step 1 Exam or create your own questions, and get statistics and feedback for catering your classes to how the students are performing on each area and subtopic.
