The School of Medicine and the Graduate School offer a combined M.D./Ph.D. Program designed for selected students who aspire to a career in biomedical research and/or academic medicine. The M.D./Ph.D. Program offers the opportunity to combine the clinical studies that accompany the medical degree with graduate education and doctoral research in wide variety of academic disciplines, including Microbiology and Immunology. It is anticipated that the requirements for both the Ph.D. and the M.D. degrees can be completed in eight years, although the interval required for the doctoral research program is not always predictable. A satisfactory draft of the dissertation is required prior to returning to the medical school curriculum.
