The Department of Microbiology & Immunology is planning to move out of its 35-year home in the Mary Ellen Jones Building. The current plan is for us to occupy the entire 6th floor of the new Imaging Research Building (http://imagingbuilding.blogspot.com/), scheduled for completion in mid-2013. This building is immediately adjacent to the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and across the street from the Genetic Medicine Building. The Department will also occupy the entire 9th floor of the completely renovated Burnett-Womack Building, which includes the largest BSL3 facility on campus. Together, these buildings will provide modern, efficient lab space for our growing community of scientists interested in immunology, virology, and microbial pathogenesis.

The combination of the Imaging Research Building and the Burnett Womack Building will provide us with some of the best research space on campus, centrally located and beautifully designed for both bench research and collegial interactions. We have waited a long time for this!
