Dr Shores’ clinical expertise is the surgical care of patients with benign and malignant head and neck tumors. She was recruited by the UNC Division of Infectious Disease UNC Project to come to Malawi in 2006 to assist with biopsy of children with Burkitt lymphoma. Since then, she has spear headed studies on Burkitt lymphoma at Kamuzu Central Hospital and established a cancer database (link to Research). Dr Shores is working on research in the etiology of esophageal cancer, surprisingly common in Malawi.
