Local Bloomer Hill Community Clinic Coordinators
Cynthia, Ethel, and Princess serve as the clinic site coordinators. They keep track of patient charts and manage appointment schedules for the clinic, and reserve and prepare the building for clinic. They serve as the point of communication between the local community and UNC SOM. Ethel, Princess, and Cynthia have been organizing the clinic from Whitakers for 24, 23, and 3 years respectively.
Administrative Assistant for Division Chief and Administrator in the Division of General Medicine
Ms. Chumley manages the administrative duties of the course and the UNC side of the clinic. She has been working with the clinic for 4 years. She organizes the UNC physicians who volunteer at the clinic every month and also handles getting patient information submitted to records.
Evan Ashkin, MD

Michael J. Gilchrist, MD, MPH
Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine.
Dr. Gilchrist and Dr. Ashkin serve as the course directors for the Rural Health Course for second year medical students. It is their first year as course directors. They facilitate laboratory follow-up and student education. They are interested in health disparities and medical education.
Second year medical students participate in the class and commit to attending 6 clinics in the course of a year. They interview patients, perform physical exams, present cases to the attending, and provide a plan for care. The students then complete the patient’s chart which is signed by the overseeing physician.
Managed under the Department of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology many of the clinicians have been serving at Bloomer Hill for years.
