NBIO 411: Research Rotations

Neurobiology students generally pursue 3 separate research apprenticeships during the first year. Research rotations are 9-12 weeks in length, such that one rotation will occur in the fall of the first year and two rotations in the spring. Students give two oral presentations of their rotation research (in December and in June) and write one full-length rotation report (in the style of a research paper). Some students engage in a rotation during the summer before their 1st year. Incoming students are advised to review the Curriculum website to find faculty performing research in an area of interest, and each rotation is expected to be in a technically and intellecturally distinct area. The purpose of the rotations is to identify dissertation advisors. Students generally select a dissertation advisor and at the end of the 1st year. In some cases, students can pursue additional rotations, and select a dissertation advisor during the 2nd year.
