Beth Knight

Biography
I grew up in South Carolina, where I graduated from Converse College with majors in Biology and Psychology. As a research specialist, I studied IGF-1 at MUSC in Charleston, SC and then the nutrient choline at UNC, Chapel Hill before beginning graduate school. In addition to science, I enjoy doing triathlons and being outdoors.
Research
I joined Mohanish Deshmukh's lab in the Cell and Developmental Biology Department. Our lab studies neuronal apoptosis. Specifically, I study the role of inflammasome proteins in neuronal apoptosis and pyroptosis, an inflammatory type of necrotic-like cell death.
