Biography

I completed my undergraduate studies at Colorado School of Mines.  I received a Bachelor of Science in 2006.

Research

The cochlear nucleus is the first brain region to process auditory information from the cochlea. This region contains several well-characterized neuron types connected in a highly stereotyped circuit. To understand the way this circuit processes auditory information, it is necessary to first investigate the behavior of individual neurons and their interconnections. In my research, I use glutamate uncaging in cochlear nucleus slices to map circuit connectivity and measure synaptic kinetics. I use this data to construct a computational model of the cochlear nucleus which can be used to test the functional relevance of individual circuit components.
