Dr. Mauricio Castillo is Professor of Radiology, Chief of the Neuroradiology Section, and Program Director of the Neuroradiology Fellowship. He completed his residency training in Radiology at the University of Miami and his Fellowship training at Emory University. He is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology. His areas of interest are imaging of the child’s brain and spine and the applications of new imaging techniques. Currently, he serves as Editor in Chief for the American Journal of Neuroradiology. He is Secretary of the American Society of Neuroradiology and has delivered over 500 invited lectures. |

Dr. Keith Smith, is an Associate Professor of Radiology and Co-Director of the MRI Research Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. in physiology from Louisiana State University. Dr. Smith completed his Radiology residency training at the University of Texas - Houston and his Fellowship training at UNC. He is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology. His areas of interest are physiologic imaging and brain tumors. He is also the Director of the Radiology Residency Training Program. |

Dr. Kenneth Lury, is an Assistant Professor of Radiology. He completed his residency training at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. Following twenty years in private practice in Massachusetts and North Carolina, Dr. Lury returned to academics with a year of additional sub-specialty training in Neuroradiology at UNC. In addition to board certification in Diagnostic Radiology, he is board-certified in Neuroradiology. His areas of interest are in clinical education and general neuroradiology. |

Dr. Valerie Jewells, is an Assistant Professor of Radiology. She completed her residency training at the Graduate Health System in Philadelphia, a Body Imaging fellowship at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, and her Neuroradiology fellowship training at Duke University. She is board-certified in Radiology and Neuroradiology. Dr. Jewell's area of interest is in head and neck imaging. |

Dr. Benjamin Huang is an Assistant Professor of Radiology. He received his medical degree from Duke University and subsequently completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at UNC, where he served as co-chief resident. Dr. Huang also completed a one-year fellowship in Neuroradiology at UNC. He trained in head and neck imaging at Emory University. Dr. Huang is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology. His areas of interest are vascular and head and neck disorders. |
INTERVENTIONAL NEURORADIOLOGY |
The Neurointerventional Service functions independently from the Diagnostic Neuroradiology Service. Our fellows rotate through it and gain considerable experience in all facets of diagnostic angiography and interventions. The service is headed by Dr. Sten Solander. Dr. Sten Solander, is an Assistant Professor of Radiology and Director of Interventional Neuroradiology. He completed both his radiology residency and Fellowship at the University Hospital of Uppsala in Sweden. He also trained in Interventional Neuroradiology at the University of California - Los Angeles. He holds diplomas as a specialist in Radiology and Neuroradiology from the Swedish Medical Society. He is a consultant to various device and imaging equipment manufacturers. |

Lester Kwock, Ph.D., is a Professor of Radiology. He obtained his degree from the University of California.Dr. Kwock’s area of expertise is MR spectroscopy with special emphasis in neurological disorders. Because of this, he works closely with the members of the Neuroradiology section. He has published extensively and has held several federally-funded research grants.
