Good News for the Week

September 4, 2012

In Chapel Hill, Friday, August 31 was Dr. Deb Bhowmick’s official first day as a member of the Department of Neurosurgery. He is joining us after completing residency at the University of Pennsylvania and spine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. Both of these are among the elite programs in the country. He will begin seeing patients at the Spine Center on Wednesday September 12th, and already has his first case booked for next week. We are very excited that he has joined our Neurosurgery team.

Charles S. Haworth, MD

In Pinehurst, Dr. Charles Haworth joined our faculty effective Friday, August 31. He will be based in our Pinehurst operation  (FirstHealth Neurosurgery – A Division of UNC Neurosurgery is the current favorite in the rebranding discussion) and is joining Drs. Carson, Jaufmann and Wadon.  He is coming to us after 16 years in Lumberton. In Lumberton, he was in solo practice but was an affiliate of  Duke University. Dr. Haworth was named President of the North Carolina Spine Society for 2015.  He has a passion for minimally invasive and image guided spine surgery.

Last week, Heather Ritchie officially started as nurse manager for 6NSH. We are enthusiastic about her new role and her desire to provide excellent patient care to our Neurosurgery patients.
