Dr. Wilkins has a remarkable track record of academic success in Neurosurgery. He joins UNC after a long and successful career with our neighbor, Duke University. Dr. Wilkins was Professor of Neurosurgery from 1976 to 2005, Chief of Neurosurgery from 1976 to 1996, and Professor Emeritus of Surgery since 2005.
Among his many accomplishments in neurosurgery, Dr. Wilkins was Chair of the Board of the ABNS, a founding editor of Neurosurgery, and principle editor of the textbook Neurosurgery, which was the bible of neurosurgery in the 1990s. His CV includes more than 300 publications. In addition to his academic and clinical career, Dr. Wilkins has been active in humanitarian efforts around the world.
Dr. Wilkins will focus his efforts on academic scholarship, resident and medical student education, and mentoring of residents and faculty.
