Dr. Barrow, Chair for the Department of Neurosurgery at Emory University, provided an excellent presentation on “The Future of Neurovascular Surgery.” His detailed explanations of procedures and opinions based on a lifetime of experience was riveting and invaluable. UNC Hospitals Receives Advanced Certification for Comprehensive Stroke Centers: The Joint Commission and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association approved certification for UNC Hospitals to operate its own Stroke Center. UNC Hospitals will be able to treat all levels of stroke care without having to transfer patients to other facilities. UNC Hospitals had to meet a set of standards set forth by the joint commissioners, UNC’s patient charts and staff credentials were surveyed, and staff were interviewed in order to receive certification. UNC is only the 15th hospital to be certified in the nation. The next nearest Stroke Center is in Philadelphia. |
