Matthew J. McGirt, MD

Dr. Matthew McGirt is research faculty in the department of neurosurgery at UNC. Dr. McGirt joined the faculty in 2013 after serving as Director of Spine Research and Principle Investigator of the spinal column surgical quality and outcomes laboratory at Vanderbilt University. Dr. McGirt currently serves as the vice director of the AANS' national neurosurgery quality and outcomes database (N2QOD) and is engaged with several quality improvement and health outcomes studies throughout the UNC healthcare system. Dr. McGirt is a Fellow of UNC's Cecil G Sheps Center for health services research.

Dr.McGirt's clinical neurosurgery practice is based at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina where he specializes in complex spinal surgery and reconstruction. Dr. McGirt attended medical school at Duke University and completed his neurosurgery residency and spinal oncology fellowship at Johns Hopkins  Hospital.
