Skull Base Surgery - Overview

The removal of tumors and the treatment of vascular lesions that occur at the base of the skull can be some of the most technically challenging surgeries performed by neurosurgery services.  In the UNC Skull Base Center, we tackle these challenging problems with teams that include neurosurgeons, ENT surgeons, plastic surgeons, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, ophthalmologists, and endocrinologists.  This team approach allows us to produce high-quality results and better patient outcomes with the least-invasive methods possible.  In the below-listed links, you can read about our minimally invasive endoscopic skull base program, which is one of the most extensive in the nation.  You'll see data about the outstanding results we achieve from skull base surgery around the ear and the temporal bone particularly for patients suffering with vestibular schwannomas.  You'll read about the use of innovative radiation and team treatments for treatment.
