Our Mission
The purpose of this website is to offer a resource for volunteer doulas of the UNCBirthPartners Program. The services you provide as a volunteer to this program help so many and we want this work to be as easy as possible. The following is the mission statement of the UNC BirthPartners program: "The volunteer doulas of UNC BirthPartners are committed to helping every laboring woman have a satisfying birth experience at UNC Women's Hospital. We believe that a doula's caring support helps a woman have a more positive birth experience, regardless of the type of labor and birth she has. In addition, it is our goal to foster partner participation and to help establish breastfeeding for those women who choose to breastfeed. We are particularly proud to be able to offer these services to women who would otherwise be unable to afford doula care. We believe that a positive birth combined with partner participation and breastfeeding creates a strong foundation for greater confidence in parenting, and a good start for any new family. "In the following pages you will find a schedule of important events in the program as well as the doula schedule. You will have access to other doulas' contact information for support. In addtion, you will have an opportunity to view birth stories and present your own to other doulas. This site will also provide you with links to outside information for reference and additional training. Information on how to become a volunteer doula with UNC is also available on this site. Please contact Leacey Nyberge if there is any information you cannot find. Contact the doulawebmaster if you find any technical errors on the website.
