The UNC School of Medicine (SOM) faculty are committed to using effective educational technologies and strategies to produce competent physicians. In an effort to achieve this goal, the SOM has developed a comprehensive list of student Core Competencies, with corresponding milestones for each of the four years of medical school education. All medical students at UNC SOM must demonstrate achievement of these competencies prior to graduation.
These core competencies are the driving force behind the development of all UNC SOM clerkship and course curricula. The OB/Gyn clerkship is no exception, as it has utilized them, as they relate to the field of obstetrics and gynecology and women's health, as the basis of the curriculum development. Further information about these core competencies, including a description of how specific objectives of this clerkship can be linked to them can be found under the Competencies tab or by clicking here.
