Course Objectives

APGO Medical Student Educational Objectives, 9th Edition

These are objectives for the third year medical students, developed by the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Undergraduate Medical Education Committee (UMEC).  While the SOM's Core Competencies function as the primary driving force behind the curriculum development, these objectives serve to assist students in the fulfillment of these competencies.  They are designed to cover topics which will prepare you for your career in medicine even if obstetrics and gynecology will not be your chosen specialty.   It would be extremely difficult to achieve these objectives through clinical experience alone.  Additional studying and supplemental reading will be required.

Each student will receive a bound copy of the objectives for references, as those contained in the website link are password protected.  If, however, you would like to access the online version of the Educational Objectives, contact Sara Tinkham, the Clerkship Coordinator, and she can provide you with the necessary login information.  Please use them to guide your study throughout the duration of your clerkship.  The bound copy should be returned to your site coordinator at the end of the clerkship.

Please check with your individual site directors to determine how to best achieve these objectives.  Use these as guidelines for study.  Try to maximize your didactic and clinical experiences to achieve these objectives.

For Chapel Hill Students, clinical site assignments and didactic experiences are mapped in a table to help organize your study.
