Dr. Steege received his BA in Biology at Stanford University and obtained his MD at Yale University School of Medicine. At Yale, he also completed an internship in medicine and pediatrics, followed by residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a one year fellowship in Human Sexuality. He served on the faculty at Duke University Medical Center for 15 years before coming to UNC as a Professor in 1992. Since 1986, he has been a national leader in advanced laparoscopic surgery, performing his first laparoscopic hysterectomy in 1991. He is past president of two national organizations, and published the first comprehensive textbook on chronic pelvic pain in 1998. He has been listed among America’s Top Doctors annually since 2001, and in 2012 was listed among the top 1% of all physicians by US News and World Report.
