UNC Advanced Laparoscopy and Pelvic Pain performs gynecologic surgeries for benign disease (non-cancerous), with advanced expertise in operative laparoscopy, including robotic assisted gynecologic laparoscopy.  We are regionally and nationally recognized as authorities in the evaluation and management of pelvic pain problems, and in laparoscopic surgery.   Typical patients are those with chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, fibroids, and other general gynecologic problems.

It is our experience that about 90-95% of commonly performed gynecologic surgeries can now be done with minimally invasive (laparoscopic) techniques. This type of surgery involves much less pain after surgery and allows quicker healing and return to normal activities. We do perform robotic surgery on occasion, but find that our long experience and high surgical volume are much more important than the employment of the robot. Robotic surgery has benefits, but the decision about which surgery to perform is something that is important for a patient to discuss with her provider.
