Outpatient Treatment Program

Horizons will meet with each woman to see what level of treatment will work for her. Counselors will also meet with clients in their home or at other agencies. After admission, a woman will receive case management, individual and/or group counseling. If a client needs a residential level of care, she will be referred to our residential programs or other similar residential programs in the State.

Group Treatment at the Chapel Hill Center

The SACOT (Substance Abuse Comprehensive Outpatient Treatment) meets daily (Monday-Friday) from 9:00 AM -1:45 PM. SACOT includes individual therapy as well as a diverse variety of therapeutic and educational groups. Examples of topics that are covered in group treatment include:

  • Addiction Education/Relapse Prevention
  • Managing Feelings and Stress
  • Relationship and Family Issues
  • Women's Health and The Women's Way through the 12 steps
  • How to Heal from Effects of Trauma
  • Parenting
  • Employment and Budgeting

The Horizons SAIOP (Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient) Program

The Horizons SAIOP (Substance Abuse Intensive Outpatient) Program is for available at both the Chapel Hill and Wake County locations. The program meets 3 days each week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) from 9:00 AM-12 PM or 1:30 PM. Topics of this program include relapse warning signs/pattern, developing and practicing new recovery management tools, parenting and relationships.

Women in either SACOT or SAIOP program also receive Individual Counseling regularly.

Other Outpatient Services at Chapel Hill and Wake include:

  • Individual psychotherapy
  • Family counseling
  • Psychiatric evaluation
  • Psychiatric medication management (includes suboxone)
  • Case management and peer-support
