Research
The Gynecologic Oncology Division:
- has an integrated approach to cancer care and research. We have a track record of taking clinical questions and translating them into clinical trials. Several of our laboratory endeavors have lead to clinical trials in the hopes that we will be able to improve the outcomes of our patients who have gynecologic malignancies.
- Is active participants in the Gynecologic Oncology Group which is our specialty's clinical trial organization. In addition, we partner with our colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry in order to offer our patients novel therapies in a timely fashion.
- Has collaborations with the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center allow us to collaborate with thought leaders and scientists in other disciplines to move forward with research in gynecologic malignancies. Our Phase I team at UNC is multidisciplinary thereby allowing our patients to benefit from novel treatments when other conventional options have failed.
- Is active in basic science, translational and clinical research with laboratories in MacNider and at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Basic science and translational research interests include (1) novel targeted therapies for endometrial cancer and their interactions with critical cell signaling pathways implicated in the pathogenesis of this disease and (2) gene expression profiling of endometrial and ovarian cancer tumors. Clinical research interests are vast but include retrospective analyses of treatment strategies for ovarian and endometrial cancers and the application of robotic surgery to gynecologic malignancies.
