Sunrise Casaworks Residential Program
| Sunrise is a one year residential program for sixteen mothers and their children (up to 3 children under age 12). The program focuses on three main goals:
While at Sunrise, each family lives in a rent-free apartment at a local apartment complex. Of the sixteen apartments, eight apartments are reserved for families on Work First and six apartments are reserved for pregnant women or women with an infant. The mothers complete the full-day SACOT program. Mothers are encouraged to get their GED and/or obtain training or other education to increase their job prospects. All the mothers work for the last few months and save money until graduation. Their children ages 0-5 attend our on-site therapeutic Child Care Center. Older children attend the Chapel Hill schools. When the families are at the residence, they also participate in the Strengthening Families Program, Life Skills Groups, Community Groups, and individual and family counseling. Families continue to receive services from Horizons for at least six months after discharge. *Work First is part of the Temporary Aid to Needy Families (TANF) cash assistance program in North Carolina. |
