Personal Biography:

Dr. Stringer holds appointments in both the School of Medicine (OBGYN) and the Gillings School of Global Public Health (Epidemiology). He also serves as Associate Director for Research within UNC’s Institute for Global Health and Infectious Diseases. Between 2001 and 2012, Stringer lived in Lusaka, Zambia, where he co-founded and led the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ). Stringer’s current research focuses on developing and evaluating new technologies to improve obstetrical outcomes in resource constrained settings. He has served as PI for over $270 million in grant and contract funding for research, training, and clinical implementation, and is currently funded by the NIH and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He is the author of approximately 300 scientific articles. Jeff and his spouse, Dr. Elizabeth Stringer (also an obstetrician) occupy an empty nest in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
