Professor, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility

Anne Z. Steiner, MD, MPH is a Professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Dr. Steiner's research focuses on reproductive aging, antimüllerian hormone (AMH), and predictors of fertility and infertility (link to publications). Her research collaborators include Donna Baird, PhD, MPH in the Epidemiology Branch of NIEHS, Anne Marie Jukic, PhD, at Yale School of Public Health, and Amy H. Herring, ScD at UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.

She recently completed Time to Conceive, a prospective, time-to-pregnancy cohort study, which enrolled over 750 women ages 30-44. The purpose of the NICHD-funded study was to determine if markers of ovarian reserve are predictors of reproductive potential. Dr. Steiner also is the primary investigator for the UNC site of the Reproductive Medicine Network. The Network is funded by the NICHD to conduct clinical studies to investigate problems in reproductive medicine including female and male infertility. She is also the primary investigator for the NICHD Reproductive Medicine Network MOXI trial, which seeks to determine if treatment of infertile males with antioxidants improves male fertility.

Dr. Steiner has served an associate editor for Fertility & Sterility and a scientific editor for BJOG. She was a Women's Reproductive Health Research Scholar at UNC and has received a number of awards including a Junior Faculty Award and the Jefferson Pilot Fellowship Award.

Dr. Steiner received her MPH from the UNC School of Public Health in 2003. Her MD degree was awarded magna cum laude from Emory University School of Medicine in 1998.
