Alice Chuang, MD, MEd - UNC Health Care

Dr. Alice Chuang obtained her undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics at Harvard University. She then returned to her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee to complete both medical school and residency training at the University of Tennessee. She stayed there as an Instructor for two years before accepting an appointment as Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

During her faculty appointment at the University of Tennessee, she served as clerkship director and made many contributions to both resident and student curricula. She was a recipient of teaching awards both as a resident and as faculty, winning the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award in 2002.

At UNC-Chapel Hill, she was again awarded the APGO Excellence in Teaching Award in 2006 and has won departmental and school-wide teaching awards from 2003 through the present, distinguishing herself in both the basic science curriculum and the clinical curriculum. She currently serves as the Clerkship Director and as one of 12 advisors in the Larry Keith Advisory Colleges who provide mentoring and advising for all medical students. She is involved in curriculum development with particular interests in teaching professionalism, preparing learners for life after medical school and residency and the appropriate use of technology in education. She credits her career achievements to her extraordinary mentors and her career satisfaction to a community, both local and national, of amazing colleagues and friends. She credits her sanity and insanity to her two children, ages 11 and 9, and her husband, who is coincidentally also an obstetrician. Her biggest recent accomplishment is completing her Master of Education in April 2016. (May 2017)
