Overview

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology  takes a multidisciplinary approach to the care of women with pre-invasive (benign and in-situ) and invasive (malignant) gynecologic cancers. Our team includes the physicians and nurses from the gynecologic oncology service as well as radiation oncology and surgical pathology.  Social services, psychiatry, pastoral services and other ancillary personnel provide support not only to our patients but also to their family members.

Here are a few spotlights about the UNC Gynecologic Oncology Division that sets us apart:

Patient Care

  • We are the only program that offers on-site chemotherapy infusion
  • UNC is one of the pioneer and premier gynecologic oncology programs in robotic and minimally invasive surgery
  • Seven Board certified Gynecologic Oncologists

Education

  • We are one of 41 approved fellowships in Gynecologic Oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Research

  • We have an integrated approach to cancer care and research.  We have a track record of taking clinical questions and translating them into clinical trials.  Several of our laboratory endeavors have lead to clinical trials in the hopes that we will be able to improve the outcomes of our patients who have gynecologic malignancies.
  • We are active participants in the Gynecologic Oncology Group which is our specialty's clinical trial organization.  In addition, we partner with our colleagues in the pharmaceutical industry in order to offer our patients novel therapies in a timely fashion.
  • Our collaborations with the UNC Linberger Comprehensive Cancer Center allow us to collaborate with thought leaders and scientists in other disciplines to move forward with research in gynecologic malignancies.  Our Phase I team at UNC is multidisciplinary thereby allowing our patients to benefit from novel treatments when other conventional options have failed.
