“Opportunities for cervical cancer prevention in low- and middle-income countries”

Carla Chibwesha, MD, MSc is Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the UNC Division of Global Women’s Health. Dr. Chibwesha completed her medical and residency training at Brown University and holds an MSc in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She has been living and working full-time in Southern Africa since 2009, initially as a fellow in Lusaka, Zambia and now as faculty in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Chibwesha has led projects in cervical cancer prevention and treatment, HIV prevention and treatment, and contraception. Her current portfolio includes work in both South Africa and Zambia, and includes validation and field-testing of novel point-of-care diagnostic platforms, including new technologies for HPV and HIV detection. Dr. Chibwesha is also PI of the NCI-funded AIDS Malignancy Consortium clinical research site in Johannesburg.
