UNC OB/GYN Highlights & Honors: March 2010
Honors & AwardsNancy Chescheir, MD recently completed her role as President of Association of Professors in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Chescheir also rotating off the Editorial Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology journal. Kathy Higgins, CNM was invited to conduct a review on "Obesity in Pregnancy" at the 3rd Annual Evidenced Based Maternity Care Conference sponsored by the UNC School of Nursing on March 3, 2010. Dr. Tom Ivester recently returned from his 5th trip to Ghana with Kybele Worldwide, Inc. The quality improvement work through the non-profit Kybele Worldwide, Inc. has thus far seen a reduction in maternal mortality of 34%, and in perinatal mortality of 40%, over the past 2 years. The program in Ghana will continue another 2-3 years, and has expanded to provide opportunities for other faculty, fellows, and senior residents. Dr. Gretchen Stuart received a $10,000 TraC$10K award for her research entitled “Feasibility of collecting breastfeeding data using validated questionnaires when the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device is placed 10 minutes to 48 hours postpartum; add on to an ongoing funded pilot study.” In the NewsN.E.D. the band performed in the triangle the weekend of February 26 & 27, 2010.
