UNC Hospitals named to list of 100 hospitals with great women’s health programs

The annual list recognized N.C. Women’s Hospital for its recent U.S. News & World Report rankings, Baby-Friendly designation and mood disorders clinics.

Becker's Hospital Review has named UNC Hospitals to its annual list of 100 hospitals and health systems with great women's health programs.

According to the announcement, the hospitals on this list offer award-winning care to women in a variety of specialties, including gynecology, obstetrics, women-focused heart care and women-focused cancer care.

The citation reads:

"UNC Hospitals is the first and only health system in the country to maintain a freestanding inpatient care unit for women with postpartum depression or other perinatal mood disorders. U.S. News & World Report ranked UNC Hospitals among the top 15 hospitals in the nation for gynecology for 2016-17. The health system's Women's Hospital received a Baby-Friendly designation from Baby-Friendly USA and is the only hospital in North Carolina's Triangle region to offer 24/7 in-house midwifery care."

To develop this list, the Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected hospitals based on national rankings and awards received from several institutions, including U.S. News & World Report national and regional rankings for gynecology, CareChex rankings for women's healthcare, women's health Healthgrades awards, Women's Choice Award's Best Breast Centers list and Baby-Friendly designation from Baby-Friendly USA, the accrediting body for the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative in the U.S.
