Although minority faculty recruitment remains a challenge to most of the nation's medical schools, minority faculty within the UNC School of Medicine are represented at slightly more than the national average. The School's variety of programs and resources serve as a strong foundation on which to build efforts to recruit, develop and train URM faculty.

This Center of Excellence will:

  • Increase the number of undrrepresented faculty in the UNC School of Medicine by expanding and providing support for new junior faculty members in the existing Minority Cohort Recruitment Program (MCRP)
  • Develop and expand formal mentoring and faculty development programs to provide career counseling and training for URM junior faculty
  • Develop and expand recruitment programs to attact URM residents to careers in academic medicine at UNC.
