Medical students'
clinical education begins in the first year and extends through
the fourth. While many of these clinical placements are in underserved
areas, not all students have the opportunity to learn in such settings.
Access to a variety of information resources, and curricula in
cultural competence, as well as efforts to increase such clinical
exposure, will ensure that all medical students experience a broad
range of culturally diverse learning opportunities.
This Center of Excellence will:
- Identify and arrange for 24 URM students to complete their Introduction to Clinical Medical experience in underserved communities
- Create an area and increase holdings for minority health issues in the NC AHEC digital library to increase student and faculty access to information resources in minority health
- Develop a cultural competence module for the Expert Preceptors Interactive Curriculum allowing community preceptors to receive training online in teaching cultiral competence to medical students.
