Information for Current Standardized Patients

Payroll Information

When you're hired to be a Standardized Patient (SP), you become a temporary employee of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a temporary employee you are not eligible for benefits. The number of hours and length of time you work will depend on your responsibilities as a SP. Your hourly rate will be $16 for training as well as performing.

The Hiring Process: Before you start working, we will ask you to come to the Office of Educational Development to complete both the North Carolina and federal tax withholding forms, as well as an employment eligibility verification form. Please bring 2 forms of identification- usually your driver's license and social security card. If you do not have one of these forms of ID, a birth certificate or valid U.S. passport will do.

Time Sheets & Pay Periods: UNC pays its employees on a bi-weekly basis. This schedule (and other employment information) is available on the UNC Human Resources web site.

When you work as a SP, you will be asked to complete & sign a time sheet at the end of a 2-week pay period. Erica Clarkson will submit the hours you worked on the next available payday. You will receive your paycheck 2 weeks later on the next scheduled payday. Remember- there is a lag time of 2-4 weeks before you receive your first paycheck, depending on where in the pay period you began.

Changes in Your Employment Status

It's important to let us know if you become a full-time state employee, have any changes in your contact information, or changes in your situation that might affect your participation in the program. This will also help us keep in touch with you about changes here at UNC. You can do this by contacting Erica Clarkson (919-843-9372) or Joey Woodyard (919-843-9378).
